Ajeer and Nerissa

Fables have it,
Its not an old tale,
Yet its not known,
Except by a few,
The tale of Ajeer and Nerissa...
They were in love,
Yet they werent lovers,
No one knew what,
They meant to each other,
But they knew some bond was there.
A bond greater than marriage.
A bond greater than love.
Yes, they were friends,
As known to all,
But friends.. Or more??
No one could say.
Their bond was pure,
Not selfish or for personal benefits!
Yet they loved indefinitely.
How could it be?
People wondered,
And their wonder just grew,
They belonged to two different lands,
Had nothing in common,
Then what was it,
that bound them to each other?

On this fateful day,
Ajeer left home,
The gods who,
Had grown jealous of this bond,
Rolled the dice,
And what forecame wasnt nice,
Behind his back,
Came a gentle lad,
The love god in disguise,
To Nerissa he spake,
Of giving up Ajeer,
But it went in vain,
For she, infirm of purpose.
Her love he couldnt shake,

On the other side,
Ajeer was tried,
And he got ensnared and trapped,
He brought home the beatous bride,
Much to Nerissa's dismay,
In his new bride,
He was so lost,
Poor Nerissa he almost forgot,
She stifled all her sorrow,
And drank all her tears,
Till one fine day,
Ajeer returned from work,
To find Nerissa dead.

Grief oh grief!!
Oh mighty sorrow,
It broke poor Ajeers heart,
And there he fell,
upon his knees,
Lifeless and limp,
Separated when alive,
But united in death!!
